New release date set for November examination results

Following a project driven by school requests, Diploma Programme (DP) exam results for the November 2018 session will be released on a new date. For the November 2018 DP examination session, the IB will release results to schools on 3 January 2019.

Since May 2017, we have been investigating the possibility of releasing DP exam results earlier for the November sessions in response to requests from schools whose students would be applying to Australian Universities.

The project looked at internal processes and surveyed all November sessions schools to find out their needs around results release, and 84% of the schools who responded said they would like to see the results release brought forward.

Using the data gathered from schools and the improvements we identified in our internal processes we will be implementing the changes below for the November 2018 examination session:

  • Schools will receive access to results on 3 January 2019
  • Enquiry Upon Results (EURs) and other post-results services commence immediately after results are issued on 3 January 2019

By releasing results two days earlier we can give students more time to meet change of preference deadlines for Australasian university admissions.

The Australasian Conference of Tertiary Admissions Centres (ACTAC) have welcomed this change, saying: “IB students can be assured that they will continue to receive offers to the full range of courses in January. While universities will be making offers to many Australian Year 12 students in December, they will still be waiting for results from other significant groups of students, such as IB students and current tertiary students. Consequently, universities will not fill their quota for any course in December, and will reserve sufficient spaces to allow them to make offers to other eligible students in January.“
