In celebration of World Animal Day, Swiss International Scientific School Dubai (SISD), part of the Nord Anglia Education family, hosted an insightful exhibition led by its Primary Animal Welfare Ambassadors and Secondary School Council Leaders. The event highlighted the importance of pet adoption, raised awareness of global animal welfare, and emphasised the protection of local biodiversity, while reinforcing SISD’s values of compassion, global citizenship and environmental stewardship. Held on the 4th of October, SISD engaged with parent and student communities through a series of exhibits and activities aimed at promoting ethical treatment of animals, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of wildlife conservation.

Gullrukh Rafiq, Assistant Head of Primary, said: “Swiss International Scientific School Dubai is dedicated to nurturing students academically and fostering empathy and social responsibility. This event reflects our commitment to inspiring young leaders and reinforcing students’ roles as global citizens.”

Instilling Compassion and Responsibility at Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

One of the main highlights was a pet adoption booth in collaboration with local shelters, K9 Friends Dubai and Al Mayya K9 Fujairah, where students learned about the benefits of pet adoption and ethical pet ownership. Student-led exhibits featured their research on endangered species, native UAE wildlife, and ethical pet care, raising awareness of key animal welfare issues. Students also collaborated with Emirates Nature and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise awareness about wildlife conservation. Attendees were encouraged to take action by symbolically adopting endangered animals and contributing to conservation efforts. Through these partnerships, the exhibition demonstrated how small gestures can make a substantial impact on the protection of vulnerable species worldwide.

The school community also united in a pet food donation drive to support local animal shelters. This act of collective compassion highlighted the school’s commitment to caring for animals in need, demonstrating the power of community-driven efforts in improving the welfare of animals.

Empowering Student Leaders and Fostering Global Citizenship

Swiss International Scientific School Dubai’s Secondary School Council Leaders and Animal Welfare Ambassadors took the lead in organising and running the World Animal Day event, demonstrating their commitment to responsibility, global citizenship, and environmental stewardship. This event is part of Nord Anglia Education’s broader mission to nurture empathetic, globally conscious students. Through initiatives like these, SISD empowers students to become responsible global citizens, equipped to contribute to a more compassionate and sustainable future.
