Home-schooling – UAE
Home-schooling system applies to students who are not included in the admission categories in the adult education centres or students who are included in the admission categories in the adult education centres, but are unable to attend the classes.
The system stipulates that all such students must attend the exams held at the end of each semester. Students may enrol in such system after the enrolment announcement is made every academic year. This announcement defines the enrolment period and procedures.
According to Department of Education and Knowledge, the home study system accepts all nationalities in the UAE. The age of admission is 15 years and older starting from elementary stage (Circle 2/Grades 7, 8 and 9) until the Secondary Grade (Circle 3/Grades 10, 11 and 12). Abu Dhabi provides home-schooling in 77 locations across the emirate.
Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority mentions that the regulations for home-schooling are not yet in place.
Expatriates who decide to resort to home-schooling organisations are advised to resort to Ministry of Education for enquiry.
