Seven trade fairs to open in Hong Kong early next year

DUBAI – 18 December 2017: Hong Kong and the UAE have enjoyed robust bilateral trade relations on a range of products and services over the years. Adding to Hong Kong’s business advantages, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) gathers the latest market intelligence and form partnerships to develop business for corporations, and organises more than 30 exhibitions every year to provide a one-stop sourcing platform for buyers and suppliers from both economies to develop their business.

Abdul Aziz Nasser, Deputy Director, Middle East, HKTDC announced today that seven international trade fairs will be held in Hong Kong early next year, which will offer ideal platforms for traders and suppliers from the UAE to expand their businesses into new markets. These fairs are:

  • HKTDC Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair (8-11 January)
  • HKTDC Hong Kong Baby Products Fair (8-11 January)
  • Hong Kong International Stationery Fair (8-11 January)
  • HKTDC Hong Kong International Licensing Show (8-10 January)
  • HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter (15-18 January)
  • HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show (27 February-3 March)
  • HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show (1-5 March)

“In 2017, the HKTDC’s some 30 fairs attracted over 36,000 exhibitors and over 700,000 visitors from all over the world,” Mr Nasser said. He looked forward to welcoming more Emirati corporations to explore business opportunities and tap into global markets through HKTDC exhibitions. He also highly encouraged all buyers, distributors and retailers from the UAE to come to Hong Kong for sourcing.




The UAE is Hong Kong’s 17th largest trading partner and 17th largest import supplier. In the first ten months of 2017, Hong Kong imports from the UAE grew 2.5 per cent over last year to US$3.3 billion. Hong Kong’s total exports to the UAE also amounted to US$13.2 billion.

Every year, the HKTDC organizes more than 30 exhibitions in Hong Kong. Eleven of them are the largest marketplaces of their kind in Asia, and among them five are the largest in the world, namely the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show cum Hong Kong International Jewellery Show; Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair; Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair; Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) cum electronic Asia; and Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) cum Hong Kong International Outdoor & Tech Light Expo.

As the largest fair of its kind in Asia and the second largest in the world, the 44th HKTDC Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair is expecting more than 2,000 global exhibitors to showcase a wide variety of products ranging from traditional toys to high-tech games, from famed names to emerging brands. In 2017, the fair has attracted over 46,000 buyers from 126 countries and regions.



To facilitate buyers’ sourcing needs, the fair will feature a number of product zones including the Smart-Tech Toys zone, which will showcase high-tech toys and games applying innovative technologies, such as products operated via mobile apps, or incorporated with the latest VR, AR and MR technologies. As the demand for STEAM toys grows, the STEAM Toys Products Display will return in 2018. Along with the related products to be introduced by exhibitors at the fair, it will help visitors check out the latest educational toys and games to meet with their market trends. Also returning in the upcoming edition will be Pet Toys zone, featuring toys and daily supplies for pets, and the Fireworks zone which will introduce display shells, firecrackers, toy fireworks as well as stage fireworks suitable for use in different events.

Kidult World will highlight toys targeting at grown-ups, including hobby goods, models & figurines, magic items and action & war game items. The signature Brand Name Gallery will gather over 200 renowned brands including 4M, Eastcolight, Hape, Intex, SOAP STUDIO, TINY and WELLY, offering branded toys and games of high quality and safety standard. The fair will feature six group pavilions to present products from around the world, including the Chinese mainland, Korea, Spain, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, together with the “World of Toys” pavilion featuring mainly European exhibitors, which will return for the 10th consecutive year.



There will be a series of events for visitors to keep abreast of the latest developments in the industry and strengthen their networks. On the second day of the fair (9 January 2018), there will be the Hong Kong Toys Industry Conference 2018 featuring heavyweight speakers to share their insights on key global and regional trends shaping the toys industry.

Entering the 9th edition, the HKTDC Hong Kong Baby Products Fair is expecting some 570 global exhibitors to showcase a comprehensive range of products for babies and toddlers, providing an ideal one-stop sourcing platform for buyers. In 2017, the fair has attracted over 30,000 international buyers.

To optimise buyers’ sourcing experience, the fair will be categorised under various themed zones including the Brand Name Gallery, showcasing some 50 brands from 16 countries and regions. Some of the renowned brands include BibaToys, Evenflo, La Mascot, Micralite, Pali, PICCI and Oyster.

For the first time, the Hong Kong Children, Babies, Maternity Industries Association (HKCBMIA) Pavilion and the Singapore Pavilion will be set up at the fair, housing quality baby products from seven and six companies respectively. The Korea Pavilion will return to the fair with more than 25 exhibitors, presenting renowned brands such as i-angel (baby carrier), Dwingular (playmat), Daiichi (strollers) and Haenim Co., Ltd. (electrical appliances).

World of Strollers & Gear II @ Convention Hall will debut to showcase award-winning and quality strollers and baby car seats. Other featured zones include Baby Tech for buyers to source hi-tech products, Baby Bedding Items and Furniture, Baby Food and Healthcare Products zones among others.

Jointly organised by the HKTDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the 18th edition of the Hong Kong International Stationery Fair expects more than 250 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions, and over 20,000 visitors from around the world.

The 2018 fair will once again feature five product zones, including DIY Supplies, Gift Stationery, Kids & School, Pen & Paper and Smart Office.

Supported by the industry across Asia, the fair will continue to feature pavilions from Korea and Taiwan in cooperation with renowned industry associations, the Korea Stationery Industry Cooperative and the Taiwan Association of Stationery Industries. In addition to pavilions, many notable brands have confirmed their participation. The 49th Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter expects some 1,400 exhibitors worldwide to present an array of new season garments, designer collections, accessories, fabrics and related professional services. As an important event in the global fashion calendar, the fair opens up opportunities for market expansion with reference to the attendance of some 15,000 buyers from 77 countries and regions in its last edition.

The fair is well-structured in thematic zones focusing on various industry sectors – and to streamline buyer sourcing. New to this edition, the Corporate Fashion/Uniform zone, and World of Fashion Accessories which gathers a consortium of accessories-related exhibitors, including bags, footwear, gloves, legging & socks, and scarves & shawls will be added to its zone line-up to further expand business opportunities.

Highlights among the other zones are Fashionable Sportswear and Urban Clothing, which make a welcome return to the fair after their successful debut last year. Organised by the HKTDC, the 5th Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show dedicated to raw jewellery materials will be open 27 February-3 March 2018 at AsiaWorld-Expo, while the 35th Hong Kong International Jewellery Show featuring finished fine jewellery will run 1-5 March 2018 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The twin shows are set to welcome a total of over 4,480 exhibitors, forming the world’s largest jewellery marketplace. In 2017, the shows attracted over 85,000 buyers from 144 countries and regions.




The Jewellery Show comprises several themed zones including top-tier jewellery collections at the Hall of Extraordinary, internationally renowned jewellery brands such as ELLE (Hong Kong) and Lao Feng Xiang (Chinese mainland) at the Hall of Fame, and innovative designer brands at Designer Galleria. The newly launched IT Solutions for Jewellery zone gathers IT solution providers to demonstrate their latest innovations and applications for the jewellery industry, such as e-business solutions, augmented reality (AR) retail technology, inventory management and mobile applications, among others. The Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show houses quality diamonds, precious gemstones and fine pearls in three themed zones respectively: Hall of Fine Diamonds, Treasures of Nature and Treasures of Ocean.

The Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition returns next year to honour local designs of superior craftsmanship and creativity from the Student Group and the Open Group. An exquisite Gala Dinner as well as a series of seminars, buyer forums and networking events will also bring industry players the latest market intelligence and facilitate business exchange, among which TRENDVISION Jewellery + Forecasting will give a seminar on the latest jewellery trends.
