Today, being sustainable is at the core of every country’s development. And Dubai is leading the way in the region. What makes Dubai’s vision noteworthy is the vision of its leaders. When His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the UAE Strategy for the Future, a planning approach for analysing and implementing development in line of sustainability, he said, “As a nation, we have always been forward-looking and planning for the future, which has been a key driver of our success.” UAE was the first country in the Middle East to set up renewable energy targets. The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 has planned to fund over Dh100 billion to increase clean energy extraction to 25 per cent by 2030 and 75 per cent by 2050.

Currently, one of the biggest commitments of Dubai is Expo 2020 and the key element that will set it apart from previous Expos is sustainability.

By 2021, about 30 million international tourists are expected to visit the UAE annually. Dubai thus has the potential to turn into a hub for eco-tourism. With more and more people searching for greater sustainable implementation, it’s not rare to see tourists concerned more with eco-tourism than just sightseeing.

Sustainable community is not just a record for a country to maintain. In fact, it is a necessity for better quality life and most importantly, for preserving the planet. When every citizen is aware of its the needs of the planet, cities dedicate their development to the environment and this leads countries to move towards sustainability.
