Innovative Projects from various UAE schools

Dubai, United Arab Emirates; 3 March 2016 – Students from across the Gulf are showing just how innovation is catching up in schools in the region with a range of technological projects on showcase at the ongoing GESS Dubai exhibition and Global Education Forum.

“Schools need to create learning spaces where creative and significant changes matter for kids,” said Stephen Heppell, one of the more than 100 educational experts who are attending the show and sharing the latest trends on how to encourage greater creativity and innovativeness among school children. “These projects are exciting to witness as it shows how students can get really creative when given the opportunity. Sometimes all it takes is a little change, perhaps a small redesign in the classroom environment, to be able to bring out the best in students.”

A team of students from Mohamed Bin Rashed School created the MBR Drone, which was prompted by the recent fire accident at one of the hotels in Downtown Dubai. “The drone has an ultrasonic sensor which can detect where the fire started and the possible reasons for it. The objective of the drone is to prevent the fire from spreading and contain it as quickly as possible,” said Abdulaziz Abdulla, one of the members of the team that included Humaid Sultan, Tallal Mohamed, Salman Seif and Hassam Abdullah Al Hashimi who spent AED5,000 from their personal funds to be able to create a project which they said can make a positive contribution to society.

A Magnetic Cabling Electricity Project from students of Alrafan School from the Umm Al Quwain Education Show has also been generating some buzz at the show. The project was prompted by a study that shows 22% of electricity being produced in the UAE goes to waste. The project uses simple CDs and magnets to create cables that can help reduce electricity wastage.

On its last day, GESS Dubai and GEF will continue to inspire education professionals with presentations from Google Education (Encouraging Innovation and Inspiring Your Audience) and Discover Education (The Digital Transformation: What it Means, Where it is Working, Why it is Time) as well as Global Trends and Innovation in Early Childhood Education.
